Spring Gala 2007
The Riverside Hawks first annual Spring Gala fundraising dinner held on May 3rd was a great success. “A Special Night in Harlem” was attended by 250 people. Sports Anchor Andrea Joyce was the emcee and even did a comic bit. NY LT Governor, David Paterson was honored and humorously spoke about his athletic prowess.
The auction, orchestrated by professional singing auctioneer Ric Cherwin, helped secure several thousand dollars.
Hawks Board Member Emily Anderson was presented with the “Striving for Excellence” award, recognizing her dedication and leadership. Reverend Mariah Britton was also recognized for her persistence in keeping the Hawks alive.
Riverside Hawks Executive Director, Mark Jerome, spoke about the great year the Hawks experienced on and off of the court. On the court the Hawks were two for two in national championships and captured several local and regional titles. More importantly the Hawks graduated more than 90% of its seniors. The Hawks also started two separated tutoring/homework assistance programs. In the fall the Hawks plan to start an SAT Prep program.
Jerome also expressed his appreciation to the coaches (24 up from 12 last year) parents and all of the other volunteers that have made this year a tremendous success.
