HAWKS Educational Program
The Hawks educational program offers direct and multi-faceted assistance to our student-athletes. We are very proud that Riverside helps shape the bodies and minds of the Hawks on and off the court.
The objectives of our educational program are to provide participants the tools necessary for academic success through high school, to prepare them for college, as well as expand their horizons and open them to new life opportunities and passions. Each year, we are working to enhance our program to better serve the needs of our student-athletes. Every Hawk has access to free academic and educational support.
Currently, the Riverside Hawks educational program has three interrelated components that create a platform to support our players.
Setting Academic Goals and Requirements
--All Hawks must submit periodic report cards to participate in the program. Riverside makes clear, to both parents and Hawks, that academic performance is monitored and a standard is required to be a member of a team.
Tutoring and Homework Assistance--On site at Riverside, we have dedicated Study Hall spaces to provide a safe and quiet environment for small group tutoring/homework help. Barnard College’s C.I.T.Y. (Community Involvement through Tutoring Youth) program provides our student-athletes with amazing tutors. Through the winter, every middle school Hawk must attend pre-practice Study Hall with their teammates—seeing themselves as a team not only on the court but also off the court. After the high school basketball season must attend pre-practice Study Hall. Study Hall is available to all Hawks year-round.
Summer Leadership Camp—A four-week camp exposing Hawks to passionate leaders around New York City. Hawks spend each morning in difficult athletic performance and basketball skill workouts. After a nutritious lunch the Hawks meet leaders of various industries—in law, finance, the arts and social justice movements—and either participate in an organized workshop or explore the worlds of those leaders. What results is a comprehensive, powerful, and hopefully, inspiring experience for each Hawk.
